Darby Nielson is a managing director of research at Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMRCo), the investment advisor for Fidelity’s family of mutual funds. Fidelity Investments is a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing and other financial products and services to more than 20 million individuals, institutions and financial intermediaries. In this role, Darby leads a team of analysts conducting quantitative research in alpha generation and portfolio construction to enhance investment decisions impacting Asset Management’s Equity and High Income funds.
Prior to assuming his current role in early 2011, Darby worked as a quantitative analyst. Before joining Fidelity in 2007, Darby was an analyst for Putnam Investments from 2002 to 2006. He was also an infantry officer in the U.S. Army for five years prior to attending business school. He has been in the investments industry since 2002.
Darby earned his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and his master of business administration degree from the Sloan School of Management at MIT. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
